Multicultural Media & Marketing
Damaris serves as Multicultural Media and Marketing Director for the American Heart Association’s Founders Affiliate which covers 8 northeastern states. In this position she leads, and implements strategic plans to advance the Association’s mission, business goals and representative diverse segments. Damaris provides guidance for increasing and integrating emerging markets into every aspect of the organization’s work including volunteer leadership, corporate sponsorship, grassroots fundraising, advocacy, healthcare, public relations, advertising, web and marketing.
Most recently she led the creation of the Association’s first Latino Advisory Council to oversee initiatives for the Hispanic market. She won the 2009 Hispanic Public Relations Association Non-Profit Campaign of the Year Award for an innovative health awareness campaign called Hearts in the Heights and created the Go Red For Women Multicultural Scholarship which aims to increase the number of African American and Hispanic women in healthcare professions.
Since 2001, Damaris has worked with the AHA in a variety of roles. Prior to her current role, she was Senior Health Initiatives Director in New York City. She launched health awareness campaigns for African Americans in Harlem partnering closely on what is now the Central Harlem Health Revival.
Damaris holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Psychology from the University of Miami. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, the Hispanic Public Relations Association and the Promotion Marketing Association.
Her commitment to the community goes beyond her professional responsibilities. She supports several local charities and teaches adults to read as a volunteer of New York City’s Literacy Partners. She is a proud first generation Cuban-American.
Dra.Vicky Coll.
Vicky Coll is the Regional Director of Latino Health Equity in NJ & NYC at the American Heart/Stroke Association. Her job consists of promoting collaborations that lead to improve the cardiovascular health of Latinos in the area.
Vicky earned a medical degree in Dentistry and a master degree in Health Administration in her country, Colombia. She earned a Public Health Certification at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ –UMDNJ.
She moved in USA nine years ago and she has worked on health research at UMDNJ, Saint Peter’s University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on topics that included mental health, domestic violence, smoking cessation and drug abuse.
Previously, Vicky worked for the Hispanic Directors Association of NJ as Director of Childcare Policy where she advocated for Early Child Care and Education issues at the State and Legislative levels. Vicky has several years of experience working with low income families, underserved and minorities’ populations in NJ. She is fluent in Spanish.
Vicky Coll es la Directora Regional de Igualdades en Salud para Latinos en Nueva Jersey y En la ciudad de Nueva York en la American Heart/Stroke Association y su trabajo es crear estrategias y colaboraciones que permitan que la comunidad Latina tenga mejor salud cardiovascular.
Vicky obtuvo su título universitario como Dentista y una maestría en Manejos de Servicios de Salud en su país de origen, Colombia. Más recientemente, ella obtuvo una Certificación en Salud Publica en la Universidad de Medicina y Dentistas de Nueva Jersey – UMDNJ.
Ella llegó a los Estados Unidos have nueve años y ha trabajado en investigaciones en salud en UMDNJ, en Saint Peter’s University Hospital y en la Fundación Robert Wood Johnson en temas que incluyen salud mental, violencia doméstica, abuso de drogas y tabaco. Previamente, Vicky trabajó para la Asociación de Directores Hispanos de Nueva Jersey donde abogó por la educación temprana ante el estado y la legislatura. Vicky tiene muchos años de experiencia trabajando con familias de bajos ingresos y minorías en Nueva Jersey. Su lengua nativa es el español.

Coach Andy Capellan enters his 29th year at NRHS after spending 5 years beginning in 1975 at Stuyvesant HS in NYC. While at New Rochelle HS he compiled an outstanding record as the head girls coach. His girls teams won the 39 League titles, 33 Westchester County championships and 29 Section 1 championships both indoor and outdoors. Frank Maguire Foundation Award and was elected to the New Rochelle Sports Hall of Fame. I

New Rochelle High School Girls Track team
The New Rochelle High School girls cross country and track coach has been coaching for 31 years, although his scholastic sports career began as a boys football coach in New York City.
He arrived as girls track coach at NRHS [New Rochelle High School] in 1980 while juggling an overly scheduled life, which included raising a family, teaching at a junior high school in East Harlem, and coaching football at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan.
Coach Cap, as he is affectionately known, has a history in track and field. A track athlete while attending the University of Iowa, he competed in multiple events — hurdles, shot put, high jump and long jump were his events of choice.

Dr. Hector Castro is an expert in the fields of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine. He is Medical Director and Founding partner of Itzamna Medical Center, a modern facility dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of Latinos and all New Yorkers and their families. Itzamna was among the first private, physician owned organizations to specifically address the many health challenges faced by Latinos when it opened its doors in 2001. In 1966, Dr. Castro emigrated with his family from Honduras to New York City. He grew up in Hells Kitchen in Manhattan, attended public schools and earned a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Pace University in New York City.
A graduate of Universidad Autonoma De Guadalajara School of Medicine, Dr. Castro has more than a decade of experience in private practice. Dr. Castro completed his Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship training at Cabrini Medical Center-New York Medical College. He went on to complete a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York. Dr. Castro is an Attending Physician at the Beth Israel Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center . Dr. Castro also serves as the Medical Director of Student Health Services at the Juilliard School in New York City and is the Medical Director of the Beth Israel Latino Health Institute in New York City.
Dr. Hector Castro is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, the American Medical Association and the New York Academy of Science. Dr. Castro is also the first recipient of the Dr. Charles P. Fulton Pulmonary Fellowship Award in 1992. This award is given by the American Lung Association- New York Chapter, to help train minority Physicians in Pulmonary Medicine.
