To: Empower the Dominican Community through C.E.D.A[ Cultura, Education, Development & Advancement].

Dacanji is a community –Based organization located n the City of Perth Amboy New Jersey.

That s emerging as a leader in reframing the way the Latino community addresses and manages issues of Health education and cultural preservation .

This founding members consist of Dominican –American professionals of Diverse professions.

Who felt a need to establish an organization that would advance the concept of community participation and empowerment from the Latino community And more specifically the Dominican Population using educational and cultural –oriented programs as effective tools to encourage greater involvement and intervention.

DACANJI Genesis took place in 2000 when started to reflect to reflect on and assess the needs of a growing Dominican population. According to public statistics and supportive services used by Dominican –Americans in the city of Perth Amboy approximately 52 % make up the population base in the city. Currently the services they need are paramount to what s actually being provided by other community agencies.

Just in the last five years The Dominican American community has grown significantly where in approximately 18,000 residents of Dominican Ancestry either use major services in the city but Short changed when t comes to benefiting from community services and program. Understanding that only through the process of education cultural preservation and Health education that the community can demand an audience,

Dacanji has embarked on a process of assessment and strategic planning to confront the issues. Consequently on a process of assessment and strategic planning to confront these issues.

Consequently the organizations has prioritized areas of importance that have materialized into action –Based programs that have swayed their interest of the public and demos trade overwhelming results.

In order to formalize the volunteer efforts of individuals interested in Addressing these needs… DACANJI Formally incorporated and subsequently acquired their 501[c] 3 status

Seeks Fill three major gaps in the area of responsive services to Latino Families and

Their Children, They include Providing Families with a nurturing environment that promotes after School, Structured activities for Youths, Cross Cultural events that Highlight volunteerism in the Community, And Education.

Annual Community Health Fair Since 2001, DACANJI Has worked in close Partnership with Health services providers, and Community based organizations of Common interest.

To bring the community accurate and Culturally Appropriate information and resources that targets the Perth Amboy Community.

The Health Fair is a Forum for sharing of information, With the incorporation of actual Health Screening and Demonstrations our slogan " Decide to be Healthy", always said : "Early detection is the best protection
