About the Colegio Medico Dominicano-Delaware Valley chapter
_____________________________________________________________
The Colegio Medico Dominicano (Dominican Medical College)-Delaware Valley chapter is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1891 as the Asociacion Medica Dominican (AMD), or Dominican Medical Association. In 1994 the president at the time took a tour throughout four cities, Philadelphia being one of them, and suggested they devise international chapters. In 2003, the AMD officially became the Colegio Medico Domincano by law.
The purpose our organization is to gather and present doctors before public and private institutions, orient them towards completing their duties as health professionals and to offer support in claiming their rights by contributing to their continued education, and thereby training quality professionals on humane, scientific and ethical levels. Through our events, our goal is to generate measureable progress within our field by allowing professionals to benefit from the educational discussions, through learning and later application.
Nonetheless, as health professionals we share a valuable aspiration; to collaborate across culture, disciplines, and language among other differences to broaden our medical knowledge in hopes to ensure equitable health for the public. The obstacles are extensive, but the opportunities are greater. In 2001 our organization held the First Annual Dominican-American Medical Congress in the Delaware Valley, dedicated to “Obesity as an epidemic”. Now, 11 years later, we are ready to take on new opportunities by holding the XII Dominican-American Medical Congress in the Delaware Valley on October 7th 2012, like never before. This year our event will be dedicated to ???, giving us a unique chance to showcase health research, education, and advocacy with colleagues from a handful of places.
This year the conference will take place in Philadelphia, the “city of brotherly love.” Philadelphia is an important center for medicine, a distinction that has been held since in the colonial era. This extraordinary city is home to the first hospital in the British North American colonies, the first medical school in the country, and the nation’s first pediatric hospital among many other great contributions to history. With your help, we aspire to have our congress at Temple University Auditorium/ School of Medicine located at 3500 N. Broad St. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19140 this October for the first time.
The Colegio Medico Dominican-Delaware Valley chapter invites your organization to participate in our XII Dominican-American Medical Congress in the Delaware Valley, on the date previously mentioned. This event, expecting upward of 250 health care professionals is an excellent opportunity towards a medical learning experience. Support from institutions such as yours is vital to the success of our congress. Through this gathering, participants will be able to take benefit from the valuable resources your institution provides, and in addition you receive much exposure while helping a worthy cause.
Participation can occur through various ways. Enclosed please find details of he sponsorship and participation opportunities to form a crucial part of our congress this October. Your involvement will make this year’s event an extra special celebration. We appreciate tremendously your consideration and look forward to hearing from you soon.
