Breve Biografia del Dr.Walid Michelen


Walid Michelen.
He received his B.A. in Political Science.

Obtained his Medical degree from Cornell University Medical College.

He trained in primary care internal Medicine at Montefiore Hospital's Residency program in Social Medicine and Completed a fellowship in Rheumatology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr.Michelen, Has held a number of positions including director of residency training in internal Medicine at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Medical Director of North Central Bronx Hospital, Senior Vice -President for South Manhattan Health Network, which includes Bellevue Hospital, Chief Medical officer for the new York city Health and Hospital Corporations [HHC].

Dr.Michelen is currently the chief of staff and Director of Business Development And Grants for HHC's Generations plus/ Northern Manhattan Health Network,which is of Harlem, And Lincoln Hospitals, as well as the Segundo Ruiz Belvis, Morrisania Diagnostic And Treatment centers and the Renaissance Healthcare Network.

Michelen is currently the Chief of Staff and Director of Business Development and Grants for HHC’s Generations Plus/Northern Manhattan Health Network, which is comprised of Harlem, Lincoln and Metropolitan hospitals as well as the Segundo Ruiz Belvis, Morrisania Diagnostic and Treatment Centers and the Renaissance Healthcare Network. Dr. Michelen, a national leader in Latino/Hispanic health, has a rich experience in CBPR. He was the chair of the Health Promotion/Disease Prevention Core for the Northern Manhattan Community Voices Project; a $5 million program funded by the Kellogg Foundation for almost 10 years to improve the health of the Northern Manhattan community. He also served as the chair of the Community Core for Columbia University’s Center for the Health of Urban Minorities. He was also the PI for New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Community Access Program, a five-year grant from HRSA to improve access and chronic disease management for minority communities in Northern Manhattan. Since joining the Generations Plus/Northern Manhattan Health Network, he has led the network’s efforts to collaborate with CBOs on a number of projects including increasing access and delivering services to taxi cab drivers, small business owners, faith-based organizations and many other projects. Dr. Michelen is engaged in numerous community partnerships. He is also the Chair of New York Physicians for the Community and the Nasry Michelen Daycare Center. He is also a board member of Latinos for a National Health Plan and The Bronx Health Link, an organization composed of the leading health institutions in the Bronx attempting to improve the health of the underserved in the borough.
