
A Mental Health Technician is a person specifically trained to be able to help and care for people who are troubled with their mental health problems or emotional disorders. Certification involves completion of a study program that lasts from several months to one year, depending on the institution and type of certification. A program of study will entail the course direction of psychological sciences, psychological first aid, techniques for behavior management, ethics and mental health, crisis intervention training, and many hours of supervised clinical experience. A mental health technician shall observe and report patient behavior, assist patients in the course of their everyday activities, provide a treatment plan with the use of emotional support, and intervene in any crisis so the patients and staff will be safe.
