CIRCULAR ANNOUNCEMENT

Attorney Darihana Linarez Corporán to Participate in the VIII Annual International Medical Congress

Presentation: “The Medical Act and the New Dominican Penal Code: An Analysis for Clinical Practice at Home and Abroad”

The Dominican Medical Association, New England–Boston Chapter, and the Hispanic Health Professionals Association (AHPSI) are pleased to announce the participation of Attorney Darihana Linarez Corporán, a distinguished legal professional, educator, and lecturer specializing in medical law and professional liability.

Her presentation will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, November 22, 2026, during the VIII Annual International Medical Congress in Boston.

The presentation supports the central theme of our gathering: “Medicine in Transformation: Scientific Advances, Technology, and Clinical Practice.” At a time of scientific and technological progress, it is equally essential to reflect on the legal framework, ethics, and responsibilities that accompany the provision of health care.

This topic is of particular interest to Dominican professionals living abroad, especially those considering a return to the Dominican Republic, a return to professional practice in the country, or investment in health care projects. Understanding the applicable legal framework can help them make informed decisions and appreciate the responsibilities associated with clinical practice and health services.

A Career at the Intersection of Medicine and Law

Attorney Linarez Corporán earned her law degree from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in 2007. She has completed graduate studies in Judicial Law, Constitutional Law, and Medical Law, as well as additional training in medical liability, bioethics, criminal law, and criminal procedure.

She has served as a judge for more than 14 years and currently serves as presiding judge of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance of the Sánchez Ramírez Judicial District.

As an educator and lecturer, she has participated in important scientific and legal events related to the health care sector. She also serves as an instructor and coordinator of the UASD diploma programs in Medical Liability and Liability of Health Care Professionals.

She is the author of Entre la Medicina y el Derecho: La responsabilidad del acto médico (Between Medicine and Law: Liability for the Medical Act), a book that addresses professional liability, informed consent, patients’ rights, and the prevention of legal risk, among other topics. In 2025, she was a finalist for the DiarioSalud Influential Personalities recognition.

We invite our colleagues, collaborators, and friends to join us for this valuable discussion, which will build a bridge between medicine and law and encourage informed, responsible professional practice committed to the well-being of our patients.

This activity is part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the CMD New England–Boston Chapter and the 135-year history of the Dominican Medical Association.
